Reading, Running, and Religion…

Why blog?  Well, as if everyone doesn’t know about my life already I want to make sure no stone is unturned in the life of Kali.  :0)

Reading, Running, and Religion.  These three things I find take me into three completely different worlds.  And they are also three things that I am attempting to renovate.

Reading, why the renovation?  Well, lets just say I have never been an avid reader.  It was practically force fed to me when I was younger until I discovered the incredible world of Harry Potter. No laughing, I am being completely serious.  I hated reading when I was younger, so much so, that when book reports were due for school I found myself on the couch with my parents rotating reading pages of my books until they were finished, the day before the report was due.  It wasn’t until Harry Potter came out that I really enjoyed reading. Harry took me through junior high and high school even into college, seeming to grow up with me as each book was released.  Then in college and graduate school I found no time to read for pleasure, text books consumed my life, and I wont lie I hardly even read those.  Then after I graduated in May with my Masters Degree I found so much time to read whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted to, it was amazing, so amazing my wallet took a huge hit with all the books I was purchasing from the bookstore.  So as part of my New Year’s resolution I resolved to stop buying books and start checking them out and that is were my obsession or my reading renovation began.

Within the pages of a book I find myself completely enthralled in someone else’s story.  Some times I find myself reading the book as if it is my story that I am telling.  Through books you can discover so many new things and travel to so many different places and the best thing about them is that they are FREE!  Okay so they aren’t free if you go to the bookstore but if you step into your library, there is no damage done to your wallet.  It’s been a great stress reliever and many times helps me to take my mind off of things.  I have started my own bookshelf on Shelfari.com, http://www.shelfari.com/kalico , so feel free to take a look at what I am reading and suggest some of your own favorites.  I plan on using a couple of my posts throughout the weeks to blog about a book I finished or the book that I am currently writing.

Running.  I don’t run, well at least not very well.  I don’t think God meant for me to be a runner but I don’t think he meant for me to be a couch potato either so as of Monday, March 14th, I will begin the Couch to 5K training plan (more about this in a future post).  If any of you know me I was running pretty regularly two summers ago and almost reached my goal of running in a 5K.  However, I found that I was LITERALLY running away from “something” when I went out for my evening/ morning runs and once that “something” was out of my life I resumed my couch potato ways.  So thus the renovation of my running life.  I want to start out right this time, so I have decided to use the Couch to 5K training plan.

I enjoy running it is a time to clear my head and enjoy everything that is around me.  Most of the time it’s just me and my music, but recently it’s me, Knala, and my music.  For those of you that have not had the pleasure to have met my “little princess”, Knala is my year or so old beagle/ lab mix puppy that gets pretty much anything she wants from anyone with just one look into her big brown eyes.  She has begun to join me on my runs, and it will be especially good for both of us to start this new training plan, this winter was not very kind to either of our mid sections :0).  I’m sure there will be many posts of my struggles, pains, and amusing outings that go along with my renovation of running.

Religion, what a great time to begin a renovation, Lenten season.  Religion, more specifically Christianity is a big part of my life.  I have begun a new journey and I hope to share this journey with all of you in upcoming posts.

There are so many things in life that we try to prevent, but in the end God has the final say on how things roll.  For example take the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  My brother was just over in other areas of that region and my parents were so afraid that something would happen to him, due to unrest and turmoil in the neighboring countries.  And all the while we were afraid that someone may try and hurt him, we find him in the midst of such an unexpected act of God, and it really puts things into perspective.  God in the end has the final say on what happens in this world, He is in a sense the one we truly need to fear because His works are great.  I have gone so long not allowing God to take full control of my life, because lets face it I have a hard time giving up any control, but in the end I realize that God has the final say so why not give him the first and the last words on what happens in my life.

I have had a lot of struggles over the last couple of years in which my faith faltered and I lost sight of what was important, my renovation to my faith is the most important renovation and thanks to my CHRP retreat I was able to renew my faith and strengthen my relationship with Christ.  I hope to have many future posts about how God is working in my life and I look forward to sharing my everyday God moments with you all.

So now you know why these three R’s are worthy of a blog.  I hope to hear comments from all of my readers and I would love to hear your stories as well.

For now it is good night and sleep tight.
